Located in a city rich with historical events during the Middle Ages, the Governor's House, is itself, a testimony of the times. It is a jewel encrusted in the oldest walls of the city; moreover, it is situated not more than a hundred metres from the sea, that gave - and later it stole - the glory to the city of Lagos

The Casa do Governador, according to the existing documents in the historical files, was the residence of the Governor of the Kingdom of the Algarve until the end of 1755, when the headquarters of the Regional government was transferred to Tavira. It was on November 1st of that year, that the city of Lagos, like the city of Lisbon, was devastated by an earthquake. According to the historical documents, of the buildings that now exist, the only one not harmed was... the Governor's House. It is certain that, over the last centuries, a lot of transformations have been done to the building, turning it, naturally, more into a home and modernising it. However the Roman well, still existing in one of the patios of the house and the interior cistern, today transformed into a cool wine cellar, are evidence that, in that same place, many centuries before, an important residence existed and brings us, today, the romantic scent, mystique and adventure.

There is a lot to see and to discover: in walking distance you will find the famous Church-Museum with the Golden Chapel, or have a look at the Slave market, which is now transformed into an Art-Gallery. You then will not miss the Statue of Henry the Navigator.
A trip to the famous grottos at the Ponta do Piedade is impressive as well. Or just have a pleasant walk to the Marina de Lagos and enjoy your English Breakfast in one of the cosmopolitan Bars.
