Closeby is the historic abbey of Monte Cassino, famous for the battle during world war 2. There is a regular bus service from the town of Cassino up the winding road to the abbey. For those interested in the history and events during world war 2, a visit to the museum is a must. The area is rich in ancient mountain villages, each having their own unique features. Sit in the local bars, watch the world go by and see the people living in the 'real Italy'.
