L'Ecritoire is a little jewel of a house. It was built around 1400, of local stone. L’Ecritoire comprises a pretty bedroom, study, one-and-a-half bathrooms, a very well equipped kitchen and dining room. Upstairs is a delightful sunny sittingroom opening onto a roof-top terrace. L’Ecritoire is located on a narrow street in the heart of medieval Caunes. L’Ecritoire has Satellite TV, a stereo system, plenty of CD’s, as well as pictures and fabrics found in the many brocanteurs of the Aude. The rooftop terrace is a perfect spot for summer lunch, or an evening aperitif.

Other Details
Caunes-Minervois is a peaceful village with a 12th Century Abbey, 20 minutes from Carcassonne, with its World Heritage castle. The Canal du Midi, another World Heritage site, winds its lovely languid way to Narbonne and the Mediterranean coast. Caunes-Minervois has kept much of its medieval and renaissance heart, old stones and pretty squares. The area is rich in castles, vineyards, ghosts and heretics. Caunes is well supplied with shops and a really good little restaurant and cafe. The Black Mountains rise gently behind the village; great walking and cycling country. The nearest beach is at Narbonne, about 45 minutes away. It takes 90 minutes to the Spanish border. The Minervois is recognised as one of the most exciting new wine producing areas in France. The ruined Cathar Castles of the region are wonderful eerie places. An hour across the moutains and you are in Albi, with its Toulouse-Lautrec Museum.
